Bio

Music for a long walk alone.

Sadie Ava is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based in Portland, Oregon. Born in Seattle and raised in New York, Sadie picked up guitar as a young teenager and has been writing songs ever since, blurring the lines between rock, pop, and r&b.

Her decades-long career spans intimate solo releases and performing as the front-woman of Sundries, a Northwest rock band that has shared the stage with acts like Thunderpussy, Young The Giant, and Deerhunter, where her live shows are known for raw, explosive performances.

In 2014 she self-released The Way We Are, a record about falling in love with her now wife. Her 2024 EP, Tell Me What You’re Thinking, was recorded with Barrett Jones (Foo Fighters, Nirvana) at Laundry Room Studios in Seattle Washington. Each song explores the tension between vulnerability and release, rejection and connection.

A multi-instrumentalist, Sadie performs the majority of instruments on her records, including bass, drums, piano, guitar, and banjo. As a songwriter, she draws from personal currents and the world around her —  heartbreak, climate change, queerness, and community.

[Ava's] voice is a thing of beauty, whether wallowing in bluesy growls or breaking with emotion. It’s a rich, impressive instrument, calling to mind Concrete Blonde’s Johnette Neapolitano or Goodness’ Carrie Akre. She sings of relationships, sex, drinking, blood, and living in the city. She sings from the gut, spitting dirty words like bullets at times, and others twisting her voice around like a snake.” - Christine Mitchell
